• Whereabouts: We are a fully remote company with distributed team members. For this role, we prioritize candidates who are based in any Eastern European time zone.

🌠 YOUR CONTRIBUTION

In this rapidly evolving world, Slate is always looking for new ways to disrupt the status quo, go to market faster, and optimize customer experiences. We are looking to bring on an Android Intern now that we launched Slate on Android earlier this year. As an Android Intern, you will embark on an exciting journey to learn and master the art of Android app development. This internship position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced Android developers, earn hands-on experience in creating cutting-edge mobile applications, and contribute to projects that impact millions of users worldwide. The ideal candidate possesses a passion for pushing mobile technologies to the limits. This Android Intern will work with our existing team of talented Android engineers to design and build the next generation of our Android application and also work closely with other app development and technical teams.

You will:

1. Collaborate with Android team members to design, develop, and test new features
2. Learn and implement Coroutines to handle asynchronous operations effectively
3. Integrate and interact with RESTful APIs using Retrofit to fetch and display data within the applications
4. Participate in code reviews, offering and receiving constructive feedback to improve code quality
5. Participate in the complete app development lifecycle, from concept to deployment, while closely following best practices and development guidelines
6. Assist in designing, coding, testing, debugging, and documenting Android applications under the guidance of mentors
7. Learn to integrate user interfaces (UI) with backend services and APIs, ensuring smooth and responsive interactions
8. Explore and implement innovative solutions to technical challenges, keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in Android development
9. Troubleshoot and resolve issues reported by quality assurance (QA) and end-users, providing timely solutions
10. Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities to foster a collaborative environment
11. Continuously update skills and knowledge through self-study, training, and engagement with the Android developer community

📬 WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU MEET THESE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong knowledge of Kotlin programming language and Android app development fundamentals
• Familiarity with Coroutines for managing asynchronous operations
• Understanding of Dependency Injection principles and experience with frameworks like Hilt and Dagger2
• Knowledge in integrating RESTful APIs using Retrofit or similar networking libraries
• One or more pet projects hosted on Git platforms (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket) is highly desirable
• Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies
• Good communication skills
• English language with at least intermediate level of reading, writing, and speaking

Additional skills (Nice to Have):

• Knowledge of Firebase services
• Experience with custom views creation and integration process
• Experience with MediaPlayer
• Prior internship/job experience in Android development
