Vast offers an advanced engineering internship program with hands-on opportunities to design and build space hardware and software that will launch in 2025.
Our interns are mentored by industry experts to solve challenging real-world engineering problems across: structures and mechanisms, power systems, propulsion, avionics, flight software, environmental controls and life support systems, manufacturing, human systems, and more. This is a 12 week internship at our space station factory in sunny Long Beach, CA. Non-local candidates may be eligible for relocation assistance.
Responsibilities will vary depending on each intern’s area of expertise. We are currently looking for candidates with experience in the the following engineering disciplines:
- Avionics
- Power
- RF
- Structures and Mechanisms
- ECLSS (Environmental Control and Life Support Systems)
- Human Systems
- Manufacturing
- Thermal
- Hardware Development
- Propulsion
- Software
Minimum Qualifications:
- Qualified candidates must be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program from an accredited college or university in mechanical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or other engineering discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work full-time onsite
- Attention to detail
- Engineering problem solving capabilities
- Basic knowledge of engineering and equipment
- Prior knowledge of analysis tools
- Prior programming experience
- Application of technical skills outside of the classroom (examples include: extracurricular projects, volunteering, personal projects, laboratory research, or prior internship/work experience)
- Ability to collaborate across different teams
- Self-directed with a positive attitude and team spirit
Pay Rate:
- Engineering Intern, Undergraduate: $33/hr
- Engineering Intern, Master's: $38/hr
- Software Engineering Intern, Undergraduate: $37/hr
- Software Engineering Intern, Master's: $41/hr
U.S. EXPORT CONTROL COMPLIANCE STATUS
The person hired will have access to information and items subject to U.S. export controls, and therefore, must either be a “U.S. person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing. This status includes U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, lawful permanent residents (green card holders), and asylees and refugees with such status granted, not pending.
