Vast is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer, reporting to the Senior Manager of Advanced Manufacturing, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Hawthorne location. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the development, and testing of all aspects of the additive process with a focus on machines, de-powdering, and support removal processes.
Responsibilities:
- Optimize and develop all aspects of the additive manufacturing process
- Work with all engineering teams to develop additive manufacturing processes for new designs that leverage the full capability of the technology
- Work with new machines from installation through troubleshooting, calibration, and maintenance, while developing standard operating procedures and communicating with machine suppliers to address needs and problems
- Run RCA's on manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions
- Produce reports, procedures, and manuals to document results to mature development processes for production
- Work with all engineering teams to help develop reliable processes that help us meet our launch goals
- Investigate and develop new additive technologies as it relates to business needs
- Develop process and procedure controls to bring the department into AS9100D compliance
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline
- 2+ years of experience in propulsions design or development of metallic additive technologies
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Deep knowledge of metal additive manufacturing technology
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand process constraints and provide design inputs for improved manufacturability
- Master’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
- 2+ years of experience operating additive machines, including process control and verifications
- Knowledge of NASA 6030 spec
- Knowledge of AS9100D qualification processes
- Knowledge of various additive and subtractive manufacturing and joining techniques for metals
- Ability to perform trade studies using first principles and engineering fundamentals
- Experience with NX, Solidworks
- Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations
- Passion for advancing additive manufacturing technology
- Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment
- Highly self-motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

- Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
- Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
