Vast is looking for an NDE Level II Inspector - RT, VT, and PT, reporting to the Manager of Quality, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, non-exempt position located in our *Hawthorne, CA location. The NDE Operations organization at Vast is an inclusive, interdisciplinary team that is committed to providing high quality inspections of flight components and production assemblies. The breadth of exposure as an NDT Specialist is immense, as the organization is responsible for a large diversity of inspection types across our space programs. Must have the ability to engage with the process to provide continuous improvement to execute on the mission to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space.

*This position is based in our Hawthorne, CA facility through the end of the year and will be based in our Long Beach, CA facility thereafter.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform near surface NDE inspections with the following methods (ET, PT, UT, PAUT,)
  • Interpret, evaluate, communicate and report findings to production & engineering teams
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings as required
  • Support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
  • Support research and development of future NDE technology for operational improvements
  • Assist in training and developing others within the team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • NDT level II certification inline with ASNT-TC-1A/NAS-410 guidance in eddy current testing (ET)
  • NDT level II certification inline with ASNT-TC-1A/NAS-410 guidance in ultrasonic testing (UT), including phased array ultrasonic (PAUT)

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 2+ years of experience as a level II NDE/NDT inspector
  • Knowledge of basic Standards such as; AS, AMS, AWS, NAS, ASME, ASTM
  • Operational experience utilizing eddy current systems for the inspection of weldments
  • Operational experience in the use of single coil inspection probes and associated systems
  • Knowledge of UTEX InspectionWare software or equivalent
  • Operational experience of utilizing PAUT systems for the inspection of weldments
  • Knowledge of Olympus Tomoview software
  • Hands on experience using portable digital equipment such as Olympus EPOCH 600
  • Knowledge of Uniwest/Nortec eddy current machines or equivalent

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted
