Vast is looking for an Electrical Engineer to support the development of the Avionics and Power systems that will be required for an artificial-gravity human-rated space station.
Responsibilities:
  • Support the design of architecture and development of avionics and power system for a large human-occupied system with challenging requirements for operational environments, accessibility, reliability, configurability and redundancy
  • Provide technical direction and set requirements to software and hardware agile development teams, integration, and test personnel
  • Perform engineering analyses including trade studies, use case development, requirements definition, derivation, validation and verification, interface definition, Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, etc.
  • Support planning, development, production, integration, testing, and operation of the avionics system in close concert with every related discipline

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • 1+ years of experience with circuit board design, analysis, or unit level testing (significant academic projects, internships, and traditional professional experience all qualify)
  • 1+ years of experience with electronic components, wire harnesses, and electrical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)
  • Experience with electrical schematic capture software (Altium, Orcad or similar)
  • Experience designing enclosures for electronics

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to creatively solve problems and bring multiple disciplines together while assessing risk and making design and development decisions with incomplete data set
  • Experience working in collegiate project teams (e.g. Formula SAE, Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and/or professional experience Professional experience with instrumentation and data acquisition (e.g. SPICE, SQL, and/or National Instruments hardware)
  • Experience with software programming: Matlab, LabVIEW, Python, Fortran, C/C++, JS, etc.
  • Experience with vehicle and instrumentation buses such as GPIB, USB, TCP/IP, CAN, SPI, and I2C, as well as serial I/O (RS232/422/485)
  • Experience with full-lifecycle product development
  • Experience with designing electronics for spaceflight environment, verifying workmanship and operability through environmental test (random vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, and TVAC)
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to thrive at an early-stage startup where you will have the opportunity to help create and optimize key systems and processes
